Jaws in the South of France? The Year of the Shark unveils its quirky trailer

After the werewolf of “Teddy”, Ludovic and Zoran Boukherma change creatures with “The Year of the Shark”. Expected on August 3 in our theaters, the feature film is revealed through its trailer.

Thanks to Teddy, 2021 had been that of the werewolf for Ludovic and Zoran Boukherma. 2022 is The Year of the Shark for the two directors, whose new film will be released on August 3 in our theaters. And it is revealed today thanks to a sunny trailer, which sets the tone.

If the register changes, the style of the directors does not. Still determined to make genre cinema in the South-West of France, they land a gigantic shark at the Pointe du Cap Ferret, in the Arcachon basin. But the latter has the misfortune to come across Maja (Marina Foïs), an obstinate maritime policeman, ready to postpone his retirement for a few days to kill the shark.

As in Teddy, the accents are melodious, the sun beats down and the amateur actors mix with the professionals: here Marina Foïs, Kad Merad and Jean-Pascal Zadi, who surround Christine Gautier, already on the poster of their previous film.

The Year of the Shark… and 49 films to see this summer

Any resemblance to Steven Spielberg’s Jaws is obviously no coincidence, and these images show that Ludovic and Zoran Boukherma intend to move away from it as well as assume the primary influence of their third feature film, after Willy 1st (co-signed with Hugo P. Thomas and Marielle Gautier) and Teddy.

We do not yet know if they will need a bigger boat to go through with their ambition, which is rare in French cinema. But we are inevitably curious to see which other sacred monster of the 7th Art they will attack next, if they stay on this path.
