Jazzy Gudd: "As a single you never have to feel bad!"

"Whether it's Valentine's Day or not – as a single you never have to feel bad!", Says the singer in an interview.

Jazzy Gudd (31, "music on, world off"), formerly known as owl, published "Solo", a "hymn for all singles" shortly before Valentine's Day, as she told the news agency spot on news. The accompanying music video will be released on February 14th. In an interview, the 31-year-old reveals what Valentine's Day means for the former "Berlin – Day & Night" star, why self-love is so important and why you don't have to feel bad as a single on this day.

Just before Valentine's Day you released the single "Solo". What is the message behind it?

Jazzy Gudd: "Solo" is my personal anthem for all singles. If you stay single for a while, you will always end up with sentences like "Haven't you found the right person yet?", "But what about children?" or "But you need someone, aren't you afraid?" faced. I say very clearly: No, I don't need anyone to be happy and I'm not scared either! In the song I celebrate my independence and I would like to confidently show the middle finger to others who think that the happiness of girls is only defined by their relationship status. "Solo" should encourage others and convey that you can also be happy with yourself.

What does Valentine's Day mean to you? Do you have any special plans for the day?

Gudd: For me, to be honest, Valentine's Day is a day like any other. So I usually don't have any special plans. This year, on February 14th at 2:02 pm, the music video for "Solo" will be released. Maybe I'll just take that as inspiration and use the day to have a really good time. (laughs)

Why don't you feel bad being single on Valentine's Day?

Gudd: Whether it's Valentine's Day or not – as a single you never have to feel bad! Some people make a conscious decision to live alone, to be single. It's also nice to be able to just take care of yourself, without compromises and agreements, to be able to do whatever you feel like.

How important is self-love to you?

Gudd: Loving yourself or experiencing self-love is difficult for many. In my opinion, this is exactly what is so important. How are you supposed to be happy with someone else if you are not happy with yourself? I think that in order to find out who you actually are and what you need to be happy, you have to be able to be alone. Self-love is not found through the affirmation and love we receive from others.

What is your advice to people who find it difficult to love themselves?

Gudd: That is a good, but also a difficult question. Unfortunately, people who struggle with self-love often tend to only see the bad sides of themselves. I would advise these people to go inside and write down all their strengths and positive traits, then hang the piece of paper on the mirror and read through each morning. It has always helped me personally to see the things that I can be proud of. Nobody is perfect, but that shouldn't be the goal either. Our small quirks, corners and edges make us something special and unique.

Many singles or people who live alone are having a hard time, especially now in the corona pandemic. Which activities are good to do alone?

Gudd: The direct question arises to me, which activities can you really only pursue together with a partner? Can't you actually do everything by yourself? The only question then is how do you feel about it? Of course, it's nice to share experiences with someone and to gather experiences together. But being single doesn't automatically mean being lonely. You can still exchange (corona-friendly) a video chat with your loved ones. And you can also make great use of the current time to discover or learn something new for yourself, for example: cooking or a new language. For example, I started learning to play the piano.

In the past, you were often put into the role of outsider and had to go through difficult times. How did you manage to be completely with yourself now?

Gudd: I don't know how, but at some point the day came when I realized that nothing in my life would change for me if I only keep the negative things in mind and bathe in self-pity. Everyone has to carry their own package, but everyone also decides for themselves what to do with it. I understood for myself that the bad experiences from my past made me who I am today. And I understood that I decide for myself how it goes on for me. So I try not to linger too long with my low blows, but rather to look ahead again as quickly as possible and continue.

For some time now, you no longer appear under your pseudonym Eule, but under your real name Jazzy Gudd. How did it come about and what has changed as a result?

Gudd: 'Owl' was first and foremost my role name in "Berlin – Day & Night". Since I gave the character not only my face, but also my songs, it was easier to publish my music in reality under the name 'Owl'. This made it easier for viewers to find the songs. When you play in a daily soap, however, many only want to see the role in you and not the person who is behind it. It's important to me that people see who Jazzy Gudd is and, as a musician, I don't always want to be reduced to the format. That's why I decided to drop the name 'owl' completely.

Until 2018 you could be seen in "Berlin – Day & Night". Could you imagine coming back or doing some other work as an actress again?

Gudd: I have a lot of fun acting and I could definitely imagine doing something in this area in the future. But I don't want to go to a daily soap anymore.

What do you expect from 2021? What are your plans for this year?

Gudd: I am currently working on my album "Alles Was Ich Bin", which will be released in September and of course I hope that my songs will be heard and enjoyed. Otherwise, I would just wish that concerts would be possible again soon. I miss the stage and the contact with my fans very much.
