Jean-François Copé (LR) assures that he does not want to enter the government

The LR mayor of Meaux, Jean-François Copé, does not want to join the government of Elisabeth Borne. The former minister said this Monday morning while pleading again for the right to participate in a “government pact” to “act on the choice of the French” in the legislative elections. “Today the right of government cannot simply say ‘I will continue to be absent from a government’ while the country is blocked”, he estimated on France Inter.

He said he was “all the more comfortable” to comment on the positions of the executive and his Les Républicains party as he is “not at all intending to enter the government, (…) in nothing”, and that Emmanuel Macron and Elisabeth Borne “did not call (him)”.

Although he once again showed himself in favor of a “government pact”, he insisted on distinguishing it from a “coalition government”, “negotiated before an election” and in fact “untenable” and “unreadable for the people” if he were to count in his ranks from the LR to the communists as Emmanuel Macron wishes.

Emmanuel Macron “gives the feeling of not having completely landed”

He called on her to stop thinking only of herself in opposition because “we will never be tougher than the far left and the far right”. As for the idea of voting on texts “on a case-by-case basis”, it is “a demonic trap” where “nice laws such as the increase in purchasing power are voted on by the PS and those that are a bit nasty on the retirement, state reform, security, are by the evil right”, which means that it “will start to be caricatured and caricatured again”.

Jean-François Copé took the opportunity to repeat his criticisms of Emmanuel Macron who “gives the feeling of not having completely landed, realized the gravity of the situation”. “The only solution is to tell him ‘you have to take note that if you want to have a majority, you have to move the lines’, and move them to the right, because the ‘at the same time’ will not be able to walk on this second five-year term”, insisted the former minister.
