Jean-Jacques Beineix: what did the director of 37°2 in the morning die of?


Mainly known for directing the cult film 37°2 in the morning, director Jean-Jacques Beineix disappeared on Thursday January 13, 2022, at the age of 75, as franceinfo reported the next day.

A well-known personality from the world of the 7th art passed away on Thursday January 13, 2022. According to information disclosed by franceinfo the next day, director Jean-Jacques Beineix, who notably directed the cult film 37°2 in the morning, is died following a long illness, at the age of 75. Writer, dialogue writer, screenwriter and producer, the latter made himself known to the general public in 1980. That year, he made his very first feature film, called Diva, thanks to which he immediately managed to impose its trademark, located between aesthetics and poetry.

Before directing his first film, Jean-Jacques Beineix learned his trade alongside big names in French cinema, since he was notably the assistant of Jean Becker, Claude Berri and Claude Zidi. After realizing The Moon in the Gutter, in 1983, the filmmaker embarked on the production of what remains to this day his greatest success: 37°2 in the morning. Out at the cinema in 1986, this feature film notably made it possible to reveal to the general public actor Jean-Hugues Anglade (Nikita, The Great Bath), but also actress Béatrice Dalle, who was filming her very first film at the time.

Afterwards, Jean-Jacques Beineix will have the opportunity to work with a living legend of cinema, in the person of Yves Montand. The latter played a role in the feature film called IP5, which was released in theaters in 1992. The director will then find Jean-Hugues Anglage for the film Deadly Transfer in 2001. Also starring actress Hélène de Fougerolles, this feature film was a critical and commercial failure, but also also the latest film directed by Jean-Jacques Beineix. Subsequently, the filmmaker made several documentaries, before turning to the theater. He notably directed the play entitled Kiki de Montparnasse in 2015, at the Lucernaire in Paris. It will then be necessary to wait until 2020 for Jean-Jacques Beineix to return to the front of the stage, by publishing his first novel.. baptized Toboggan, this book deals with different themes such as childhood, the passage of time and loneliness.
