Jean-Louis Trintignant lost his daughter, Marie, on August 1, 2003. One of the most significant episodes of his life.
The life of Jean-Louis Trintignant changed on August 1, 2003. That day, his daughter Marie Trintignant lost his life. Forty-one years old, she died after being beaten by her companion, Bertrand Cantat. On the night of July 26 to 27, 2003, in Vilnius, Lithuania, the latter attacked her after an argument. Then Marie Trintignant had to be operated on at the level of the brain before being repatriated to France in a state of brain death. She left after a so-called operation “last chance”.
In May 2018, in the program 7 p.m. on Sunday on France 2, Jean-Louis Trintignant had returned to this significant episode of his life. “It was in 2003, but it completely destroyed me. I can’t get over it“, he confided. Then he added: “I didn’t get up so much. Because I’m getting worse and worse. I’m getting worse and worse, yes. But at the same time we are made of our joys and our dramas.
Following this tragedy, the actor had chosen to take refuge in work. One of his remedies. ” There are people who say to me sometimes: ‘You should make this film, it will do you good.’ And it’s true, by the way… It’s kind of true, it makes me feel good… It makes me feel good to work, to do things”, he confided. Now suffering from cancer, Jean-Louis Trintignant refused to fight.
Bertrand Cantat is not in “denial”

Then, after being released on parole in 2007 – then completely in 2011 – he the singer made a gradual return to the stage. In October 2013, he confided in the columns of Inrockuptibles not to be “in denial of what happened”. “I know I’ve done the irreparable. I just refuse to let anyone make up stories, piggyback on ours. I’ve been judged, I haven’t been protected by anyone. I obviously accepted justice, but not revenge.”he added.
