Since November 14, 2020, Jean-Luc Mélenchon has officially been a presidential candidate for 2022. Focus on his only child: his daughter, Maryline Camille.
The leader of France Insoumise is rarely the last to be talked about in the media. However, on the private side, the public knows little about Jean-Luc Mélenchon. Did you know, for example, that he had a daughter, Maryline Camille Mélenchon, born of his marriage to Bernadette Abriel? Born in 1974, the daughter of the politician has also followed in the footsteps of her father, since she is, like her parent, a fervent militant of the Left Party. “If she had made other choices, I wouldn’t have stopped loving her.“, confided Jean-Luc Mélenchon in Le Divan by Marc-Olivier Fogiel in 2015. Professionalized in 2008, she was deputy mayor of the 4th arrondissement of Lyon before becoming territorial editor with the Departmental Council of Essonne. This position has attracted the wrath of Christian Schoettl, mayor of Janvry in the same department, who underlined the “happy coincidences that led her daughter to be hired either at the town hall of Viry Châtillon where her companion was mayor or at the general council where her father was all-powerful” in his blog.
On her Facebook account, Maryline Mélenchon defended herself against these accusations by denouncing “despicable attacks“for the purpose of”dishonor” as well as her father. She explained at the time: “The idea that I was able to benefit from privileges due to the personality of my father is really intolerable to me. Prejudices die hard, my name has closed doors for me more often than it has opened them, especially since I never tried to take advantage of this name“Today, the daughter of Jean-Luc Mélenchon is”editorial secretary for editions 2031“, as his bio on his Instagram account indicates.
Maryline Mélenchon: “An uncompromising feminist”
On the family side, Maryline Mélenchon is married to Gabriel Amard, a French politician, with whom she has a daughter born in 2007. The latter would also evolve in the line of her mother, since Jean-Luc Mélenchon said about the two in September 2016: “My daughter and my granddaughter are die-hard feminists. Cats don’t make dogs.”
