Philippe Monguillot, the bus driver assaulted Sunday July 5, 2020 in Bayonne, in a state of brain death since, died on Friday July 10 at the end of the afternoon, announced his daughter Marie. "We decided to let him go. The doctors were for it and so were we ", she announced, while his wife, Véronique, expressed himself on social networks: "My husband died at 5:30 p.m. RIP my love. " The Bayonne prosecution reports that the bus driver was the victim of an attack "of extreme violence ", when he simply wanted to check one person’s ticket and demanded that the mask be worn by three other passengers. An attack of extreme savagery which made many personalities like the new Prime Minister Jean Castex react on Twitter: "The death of Philippe Monguillot, cowardly attacked on Sunday in Bayonne for having accomplished his work, touches us in the heart ".

But Jean Castex is not the only one to have rebelled against the barbarity of this drama which has left a family bereaved and destroyed. Host Jean-Luc Reichmann also took up this tragic episode to express his anger. On Saturday July 11, 2020, the presenter of the 12 noon shots posted a photo of the family of the deceased on his Instagram account, to express his deep indignation. "A broken family in the name of what ⁉️ … I am overwhelmed by so much violence and cowardice. I will continue to fight, by your side as long as I can, and to denounce any form of violence."wrote Nathalie Lecoultre's companion in the caption of a photo showing Philippe Monguillot, his wife Véronique and their three daughters Mélanie, Marie and Manon.
