The photo of the Minister of National Education surrounded by seven young women from the Nemesis collective was taken at Champ-de-Mars during Emmanuel Macron’s election evening.
The photo is controversial. On the snapshot, Jean-Michel Blanquer, the Minister of National Education, poses surrounded by seven women with blurred faces. These young women belong to the Nemesis collective, a far-right movement that describes itself as “an identity feminist movement“. The photo, which was taken at Champ-de-Mars during the result of the second round of the presidential election, was shared on April 24 and immediately caused a reaction.
The Minister of National Education reacted on April 26, two days after the publication of the snapshot on social networks, denouncing “the gross manipulation of a ”collective” that I don’t know who took advantage of Sunday evening’s outpouring to take a picture with me should not deceive anyone in good faith. I don’t share anything with them. I also condemn the vulgarity of the process and the gestures“. And to add:As for anyone who has made or is making derogatory comments from a photo as if such manipulations were not common, they are playing the game of the logic of fake news, harassment and denigration which is the plague of social networks“.
At the end of the thread, the minister adds: “Once again, the far right is lying and manipulating. And finds a far left happy to relay fake news. Let us live a peaceful democracy where differences and debates are based on good faith and respect for others.” To which the Nemesis collective replied that no “handlinghad not been made on their side, justifying this by a “simple joke that people on the far left have been happy to pretend not to understand“.
