The film legend Jean-Paul Belmondo (1933-2021) is dead. This is unanimously reported by the media, citing a communication from his lawyer. The French actor was 88 years old.

Belmondo was born on April 9, 1933 in Neuilly-sur-Seine, the son of a sculptor and a dancer. His decades-long theater and film career picked up speed in the late 1950s, but he did not become really famous until the mid-1960s: mostly in funny or action-packed films in which he always appeared as a hero.

Breakthrough with “out of breath”

Belmondo made their breakthrough in 1960 in “Out of Breath” by director Jean-Luc Godard (90), five years later the duo achieved another great success with “Elf Uhr nachts” (1965). In 1989 the actor received the César, the most important French film award, in the category “Best Actor” for his role in “The Lion” (1988).

Jean-Paul Belmondo leaves a total of four children: three daughters and a son.
