Jean-Paul Rouve recounts the “worst gesture” he had to make on “a 14-year-old child” on set

Jean-Paul Rouve tells his worst anecdote from filming for the film Le Consentement, which tells the story of the writer Gabriel Matzneff, accused of pedophilia.

The film The consent will be released in cinemas on October 11th. This film by Vanessa Filho features Jean-Paul Rouvein the role of the writer Gabriel Matzneff, accused of pedophilia and involved in an abusive relationship with Vanessa Springora, then aged 14 years old when he was 50. The film is therefore an adaptation of the book The consent by Vanessa Springora, in which she gives her moving testimony and recounts the influence that the writer had over her, despite her mother’s numerous warnings: “Don’t you know he’s a pedophile?”

A particularly difficult role to play for Jean-Paul Rouve. Guest on the set of the show Nice gesture, this Sunday, October 8, the 56-year-old actor confided: “There was a journalist who told me: ‘You know, I know Matzneff well. You know it’s more complicated than that’. Well no it’s not more complicated than that. It’s very simple. He’s a 50 year old man with a 14 year old girl.”. And this role particularly disturbed Jean-Paul Rouve.

Jean-Paul Rouve recounts a traumatic filming anecdote

Throughout his writings, Gabriel Matzneff never hid his attraction to minors. It is therefore difficult for Jean-Paul Rouve to slip into the shoes of a pedophile. “When I saw actors say: ‘I’m going home with the role’… I didn’t really understand. And in fact I realized that when I came home in the evening I was… like you’ve been playing in the mud all day, you want to take a shower. Well you want to take a head shower! Because you’ve said so much trash all day… Your brain knows it’s wrong, but there’s a little piece of your brain that keeps that.” confides the actor.

And one moment in particular greatly shocked the actor: a scene where he had to caress the cheek of a 14-year-old child. “I was with a young girl, a 14-year-old child. I had to shoot this and I said to myself… He was doing that. It was the worst gesture for me to make in this film. The most internally violent” , confides Jean-Paul Rouve.
