CHRONICLE – Lowering the thermostat, driving more slowly: it’s up to everyone to reduce their bill.
The word is taboo. Too connoted with the ration tickets of the Second World War that our grandmothers told us about. It’s so far: they were removed in 1949. And so contrary to virtual abundance, the alpha and omega of our digital society where everything is available ad libitum, here and now, with a single click. Yet, in the face of looming physical shortages, isn’t that the very reason? Ratio, ration, rational, rationing… This one is not necessarily authoritarian. It can be completely voluntary. Everyone is free to lower the thermostat in their apartment.
