The prophecy of Michel-Édouard Leclerc, the boss of the eponymous distribution group predicting two-digit inflation two weeks ago, was therefore self-fulfilling. The “price of consumer products sold in supermarkets”, according to the terms of INSEE, increased by 10.6% between October 2011 and October 2022, has just announced the Institute of Statistics which calculates specific indices each month for all forms of sales. Trade as a whole also posted an increase of 10.6%, almost twice as much as the general inflation rate which was 6.2%.

In spite of their thundering promotional campaigns of “fight against the expensive life”, the large signs are ultimately not more successful than the small distributors.
