Jean Todt: “My best memory? The day Schumacher became world champion in 2000 ”

At the end of the year, Jean Todt will leave his seat as President of the FIA, the International Automobile Federation. We met him in Paris.

Paris Match. What is your best memory in your fifty-five year career in motorsport?
Jean Todt. I have plenty of them! Most moving is the day when Michael Schumacher becomes world champion, in 2000, in Suzuka. This is why we were hired at Ferrari, which had been waiting for the title for twenty-one years.

You’re leaving the FIA, are you going to pull over cars? There is a rumor about your return to Ferrari …
Rumors should not be taken into account. If an opportunity presents itself, I will study it carefully and with caution. At 75, you can no longer be impulsive. The solution would be that I can bring something to this possible project and that it also brings me. It should not take up more than a third of my time either: I am involved with the Brain Institute, which I created with Prof. Saillant, and with the SUU Foundation, the association in honor of Aung San Suu Kyi, whom my wife Michelle supports.
