Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian tested positive for Covid on Tuesday morning and immediately isolated himself, he announced on Twitter while taking part in a visit to Rennes alongside Prime Minister Jean Castex .
“I have just tested positive for Covid,” the minister announced in a tweet, a few minutes after Mr. Castex revealed the information in a speech at the Rennes prefecture. “In accordance with the health protocol in force, I isolate myself at the Quai d’Orsay for the time necessary and continue to work remotely”, added Mr. Le Drian, aged 74.

“I have to apologize to you (from the minister) who has just tested positive for Covid”, revealed Mr. Castex. “I assure you, he is fine, he has isolated himself, he will continue his mission”, but “he cannot be by my side this (Tuesday) morning”.
Mr. Le Drian had attended a visit to a school in Rennes and then to a vocational school in the morning, wearing a mask most of the time, according to an AFP journalist.
Jean-Yves Le Drian, long elected in Brittany (deputy, mayor, president of the regional council), accompanied the Prime Minister to Rennes for a visit devoted to the signing of the specific convention for the transmission of the languages of Brittany and for the development of their use in everyday life.
