Jeanette Biedermann: She talks about her escape from the GDR – video

Singer Jeanette Biedermann fled the GDR when she was just nine years old – an experience that still shapes her today. You can find out exactly how in the new episode of "I cook something that you don't see".

Growing up in East Berlin, Jeanette Biedermann and her parents dared to take the brave step of fleeing to the West via the German embassy in Prague in autumn 1989. A life-threatening action that continues to shape Jeanette to this day. Above all, the farewell to friends and family, which was believed to be forever, left a strong mark on the 40-year-old now.

Of course there is also cooking

But as always with "I cook something that you don't see", not only do exciting stories come to light, but of course there is also cooking. Together, but separated from a privacy screen, with professional chef Kevin von Holt, Jeanette dares to create a recipe for "pikeperch fillet in a potato coat" – and tells of another formative experience of her childhood. You can find out what it is in the video.
