Billionaire Jeff Bezos donates $ 500,000 at a charity gala in Los Angeles – and it reaps great amazement.
Amazon founder and multi-billionaire Jeff Bezos, 57, attended the “Baby 2 Baby” charity gala in Los Angeles with his girlfriend, US news anchor Lauren Sanchez, 51. With his 500,000 dollar donation (the equivalent of around 440,000 euros), however, he is said to have caused astonishment at the event over the weekend, as reported by the New York Post.
“Everyone was waiting for him to donate something,” said one guest about the second richest man in the world, “but he didn’t do that.” It was only after another benefactor donated a million dollars that Bezos became active. After Bezos’ $ 500,000 donation, a murmur should have gone through the room, the eyewitness continued.
The background to the astonishment: As the sheet calculates, Bezos is said to earn an estimated 142,667 dollars (125,640 euros) per minute.
Giving Tree Award for Vanessa Bryant
At the event, Vanessa Bryant, 39, was honored with the Giving Tree Award for her longstanding support for the charity. In a speech she paid tribute to her late husband Kobe Bryant (1978-2020), who was also a benefactor of the organization.
“I would like to thank my husband Kobe and my daughters Natalia, Gianna, Bianka and Capri,” said Bryant when accepting the award. “Without your love and support, I wouldn’t have the strength to be here tonight. I love you.” Gianna (2006-2020) also died in the helicopter crash in January 2020 that killed the Lakers legend.
Other prominent guests at the gala were Kate Hudson, Jessica Alba, Kerry Washington, Jennifer Garner, Ciara, Nicole Richie and Mindy Kaling.
