Jeff Bezos is leaving Seattle and will move to Miami. “It was an emotional decision,” he says of his decision.

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos (59) plans to move from Seattle to Miami. The billionaire has this announced in an Instagram post. He hasn’t lived anywhere longer than in Seattle, but his move was an “emotional decision,” as he writes.

The entrepreneur published a video about it, which shows him during his first steps in his career. His stepfather Miguel films him in the first Amazon office in history as Bezos shows him the facility with fax machines, old computers and cable phones. “Seattle has been my home since 1994, when I founded Amazon out of my garage,” Bezos remembers.

That’s why Jeff Bezos wants to move

In the post, he mentions that his parents recently moved back to Miami. Bezos had lived with his parents in Miami for several years and attended Miami Palmetto Senior High School there. “Miami Palmetto High class of ’82 – GO Panthers!” he writes on Instagram. The motivation behind his decision to move was primarily his mother and stepfather. “My parents have always been my biggest supporters,” he explains, “I want to be close to my parents, and [meiner Frau] Lauren and I love Miami.”

But a business aspect also plays a role: the operations of his space company Blue Origin are increasingly moving to Cape Canaveral on the east coast of Florida. “For all of these reasons, I plan to return to Miami and leave the Pacific Northwest,” Bezos said. The entrepreneur takes many wonderful memories with him from the city where it all began. “Seattle, you will always have a piece of my heart,” Jeff Bezos ends his post.
