Jenifer confides in her relationship with her audience: “It’s my source of energy”

Since her victory in the first season of Star Academy more than 20 years ago Jenifer has come a long way. Following the whirlwind of the inevitable after for the winners of the Star Ac’, the singer worked, well surrounded, to trace her solo route. If she could count on those close to her, she also realized very quickly that the public would be one of the pillars of her career. “I immediately felt empathy, sympathy, a protective side. That they would be angels who were going to accompany me. There was an immediate connection between them and me, something happened, an unbreakable bond. I don’t cheat and I speak freely, that’s how I was raised, maybe it plays. And it’s true that I grew up with them, and them with me for some.” says the one who will unveil her new album, N°9, on November 4.

What may seem like a chore to some artists, Jenifer always saw it as a necessary relationship and fulfilling. She deeply enjoys interacting with her audience. “It is a permanent exchange. They are in demand but so am I. My example is Jean Jacques Goldman, he’s the most honest artist I’ve ever met, I love what he conveys. It was by seeing people like him, or like Florent Pagny, who are direct, simple, and who have a real relationship with their audience that I understood that there is no false smile. Florent always told me that, ‘you are not forced into anything’. And I never force myself.”

Jenifer feeds on exchanges with her fans

If the public is present at each tour, at each concert of the singer, it is undoubtedly thanks to this simplicity and this proximity. What they may not know is that the interpreter of Les Choses Simples carefully reads what they send her, and that she absorbs it. “The messages that I receive, from people who tell me that they have learned to assume their homoseuxeuxalité for example, that nourishes me. I tell myself that I am useless. Music may seem trivial, but it isn’t. I love reading letters, testimonials, I use them when choosing texts with the authors.”

And as many fans of Jenifer will be able to testify, she often answers them, and comes to meet them. These encounters bring her the energy she needs to continue creating. “I have exchanges by private messages or letters with some, I love handwritten letters. I take the time to read, to answer and I happen to meet them when I go to a concert. These are indelible memories for me. It gives me strength in my choices, to get up in the morning, to cross the country, to do interviews. It’s my source of energy, it boosts me, I don’t do it for myself. It saved me from the feeling of impostor…”
