Jennifer Charron case: does the serial killer hypothesis hold up?

A terrible story. The facts date back to April 2007 when a mushroom picker discovers the body of a woman in a forest of Charante-Maritime. The victim was lying on the floor, face down, her hands tied behind her back by the sleeves of her blouse. His upper body and head are completely charred, which made its identification impossible initially. Thanks to an autopsy carried out, the investigators were able to discover that it is of a young woman in her twenties. The examination also revealed that she died following a cerebral hemorrhage caused by blows of extreme violence. It was only a few days after this macabre discovery that a restaurateur in Royan alerted the police, saying that one of his waitresses were absent. It is Jennifer Charron, a young woman of 21 years. In a new issue broadcast this Sunday, February 27, the show Bring in the accused will return to this terrible murder. On the program, testimonials from relatives of the investigation and many revelations.

Ideal culprits? From the outset, the investigation focused on two suspects. First there was her ex-boyfriend, Abdelaziz “Samir” Seridi but also a 42-year-old building contractor, Jose-Nuno M, who had already been sentenced to 20 years conviction for rape and attempted murder. If both were suspected, it is because their DNA was found at the crime scene. “Two of the three men currently in custody have left biological traces confirmed by expert reports on the victim’s clothes, probably in the hours preceding the death“, had explained Fabienne Atzori, the public prosecutor of Saintes. Regarding Abdelaziz “Samir” Seridi, a friend of Jennifer’s said she did not believe in his guilt. “Il can’t have hurt her, that’s impossible. I believe in his innocence 200%“, argued Sandrine Brault. In October 2008, he was released after fifteen months of pre-trial detentionand in July 2010, the examining magistrate of Saintes issued a dismissal against him. The following year, in December 2011, he was acquitted at trial. He had not never stopped proclaiming his innocence and hoped to be heard one day.

The gendarmes of the Poitiers research section were particularly interested in José-Nuno M. The reason? His heavy legal past. From the age of 16, he experienced prison for a rape case before being convicted at least four times for theft while living with his parents. On November 20, 1990, José-Nuno had raped a young woman in her twenties whom he then tried to burn alive. It was by jumping out the window that his victim was able to escape. He was arrested ten days later and sentenced, in 1993, twenty years in prison. It should have been released in 2010 but benefited from a early release in 2003 for good behavior. He was also due to appear before the Charente-Maritime Assize Court in 2011, alongside Abdelaziz “Samir” Seridi, but is died of a heart attack the year before. To date, the murderer of Jennifer Charron has not been discovered.
