In the midst of her divorce from Ben Affleck, Jennifer Lopez made an extremely emotional contribution to the American Music Awards anniversary. The singer looks back on special moments.
Jennifer Lopez is sentimental: “A humbling experience”
“It’s pretty incredible, right? Fifty years of the American Music Awards. I remember watching them at home as a little girl,” Lopez said in the clip, which can be seen on X. She then recounted her first appearance at the event in 2001. As a flashback of it appeared, she explained with a laugh: “It was so long ago – but the energy in the room was very electric.”
Lopez also spoke about the moment in 2011 when she won the award for Favorite Latin Artist: “Winning an award chosen by the fans is very special because it comes directly from the people you support making music. It’s just a humbling experience.”
“I wanted everyone to feel that love and energy”
Elsewhere in the clip, the singer looked back on her stint hosting the American Music Awards in 2015. She called the role “a huge honor” and explained of her many wardrobe changes that night: “I decided that I would change every time I came on stage. We have this dance medley to all these great songs from that year danced, and I wanted everyone to feel that love and energy.” She added: “Maybe I’ll do this again one day. Who knows?”
Lopez also said of the awards anniversary, “Music truly has the power to heal and uplift and connect us, and the AMAs have been showing that for half a century now. And I look forward to the next 50 years of music – and magic .”

Appearance after the stir surrounding the separation from Ben Affleck
Jennifer Lopez’s pre-taped appearance at the AMAs came amid the hubbub surrounding her split from Ben Affleck, 52. A few weeks ago, the ex-couple made headlines for being spotted having lunch with their children – shortly after Lopez filed for divorce from Affleck.
However, the meeting is said to have changed nothing about the separation of the two stars, as “People” reported. For Lopez and Affleck, it was already the second attempt. They were already a couple in the early 2000s, but they had broken off their original engagement at that time. Many years and two marriages later, they got together again and got married in the summer of 2022.
Affleck previously tied the knot in 2005 with fellow actress Jennifer Garner, 52, with whom he has three children Violet, 18, Fin, 15, and Samuel, 12. Lopez married Marc Anthony, 56, in 2004 and became mother to twins Max and Emme, 16.
