Jennifer Lopez becomes a Netflix serial offender. After "The Cipher", the streaming service signed her for "The Mother".

Jennifer Lopez (51, "Hustlers") is working on another project for Netflix after her engagement in "The Cipher". In the action film "The Mother" she plays a contract killer who wants to protect her daughter by all means.

As the industry journal "Deadline" reports, "Mulan" director Niki Caro (54, "City of McFarland") is said to be in conversation to direct the strip. In addition to the lead role, Lopez also takes on the role of producer and works again with Elaine Goldsmith Thomas, among others. The duo have already jointly produced the comedy "Manhattan Queen", in which Lopez also starred. The screenplay for "The Mother" is penned by Misha Green, 36, who was recently confirmed to be the writer for the "Tomb Raider" sequel.

The new Netflix film, reminiscent of the Luc Besson classic "Léon – The Professional" (1994), tells the story of a hit man who is on the run and gives up safe cover to protect her daughter. She had left them behind years earlier.

Jennifer Lopez plays an FBI agent in "The Cipher"

As early as December, it was announced that Jennifer Lopez was hired as the lead actress and producer for the Netflix adaptation of the US bestseller "The Cipher" (German title: "Screams in the Dark") by author Isabella Maldonado. Like "The Mother", "The Cipher" promises to be full of action. The novel is all about the FBI agent Nina Guerrera, who is suddenly a killer from her youth on the heels.

Netflix has not yet announced the release dates of both films by and with J.Lo. In spring, however, the 51-year-old will be seen in "Marry me – Married at First Sight" alongside Owen Wilson (51, "Zoolander"). The romantic comedy is set to start in German cinemas on May 13th.
