The young Jewish woman stabbed twice in the abdomen on Saturday evening at her home in Lyon left the hospital to return home this Sunday. She filed a complaint and her lawyer says he is “extremely determined” in this matter.
The prosecutor’s office in the city of Lyon opened an investigation for “attempted murder aggravated by the circumstance that the act could be motivated by an anti-Semitic motive” because of a swastika found on the door of the apartment of the victim. On site, to the right of this door is a mezuzah, a small Jewish protective object. And in the center of the door, a large engraving, light, as if made with a knife in a hurry. We can see a swastika.
“We must be careful”
The victim did not know the attacker. Whom she described as dressed in dark, with his face partially obscured. The young woman works, has children, has never had any dealings with the law, and above all has never received any threats. A perfectly normal life is what his lawyer Stéphane Drai describes, who calls for caution and determination.
“We must remain cautious because the judicial police must check all leads, whatever they may be. But also, we must remain extremely determined since it could turn out that there is an attempted homicide with an anti-Semitic character. In this case, she will ask the justice system to be perfectly determined to highlight this anti-Semitic motivation”, explains the victim’s lawyer.
The victim, who is, for the moment, the only witness, was interviewed yesterday by investigators and filed a complaint. No arrests have taken place at this stage.
