Jimi Blue Ochsenknecht: That's why he wouldn't take part in a dome show

Jimi Blue Ochsenknecht will present the aftertalk of "Love Island" from the end of August. Would he take part in a dating format himself?

Jimi Blue Ochsenknecht (28, "Gangs") will moderate with Cathy Hummels (32) "Love Island – Aftersun: The Talk", the aftertalk of the dating show "Love Island – hot flirts and true love", which starts on Monday, August 31st (8:15 p.m.) and from September 1st on Mondays to Fridays and Sundays (10:15 p.m.) on RTLzwei. In an interview with the news agency spot on news, Ochsenknecht explains what he has planned for his TV moderation debut and why "Love Island" is an exciting format. In addition, the 28-year-old reveals why participating in a dating format is out of the question for him and how things will continue for him as a restaurateur in the Corona crisis.

You moderate the aftertalk of "Love Island". How did that happen?

Jimi Blue Ochsenknecht: The request actually came as a surprise, but I was very pleased. I followed the season with my sister last year and found it very entertaining. "Aftersun – The Talk" was previously only available online, now the talk is also on TV, so I'll be celebrating my debut as a presenter on TV. I like new challenges – and experience a shoot on Mallorca for almost a month? I think there are worse things (laughs).

What can you expect from your moderation debut?

Ochsenknecht: We shoot three times a week and, in addition to the talk, I also record the podcast "The morning after". During the talk, I will always check with the participants to see what happened behind the scenes and away from the cameras – I hope I can do that in a fun and relaxed way.

What do you like about the "Love Island" concept?

Ochsenknecht: I find it exciting that different worlds collide and strangers get to know each other in one house – some hate each other, fall in love or even become parents like Samira and Yasin, who also had one or two arguments in between. You can never predict exactly what will happen, that's what makes it so appealing. And as a viewer you know who is playing the wrong game and who is different in interviews than in front of the candidates. I will then follow up on that in "Aftersun – The Talk".

Would you take part in a dating format yourself?

Ochsenknecht: That wouldn't be anything for me, the cameras would bother me too much. I prefer to get to know people in a more personal environment, such as on vacation, in a bar or in a restaurant.

What flirting tips can you give the candidates?

Ochsenknecht: Being honest, authentic and funny – but the latter is not out of the question. If you pretend and then show your true colors at some point, it won't do anyone any good. You want the person to fall in love with you, not who you pretend to be.

You work in many areas such as gastronomy, acting or music. What are you currently focusing on most?

Ochsenknecht: I've had my own wines for two years and recently finally launched the first red wine on the market. I have had a bar and restaurant for a year that were only open for half a year due to Corona. I'm allowed to open it again soon, subject to certain conditions, albeit without food, but I'm really looking forward to it. And at the end of August, I'll be behind the stove at the "Masterchef Celebrity" cooking show.
