Job as “Global Strategist”: Ex-Chancellor Kurz becomes a manager in the USA

Job as “Global Strategist”
Ex-Chancellor Kurz becomes a manager in the USA

Sebastian Kurz is moving from politics to the US economy: According to media reports, Austria’s ex-Chancellor is to take on a position as a “global strategist” at an investment company. Their boss has German roots and is an ardent Trump supporter.

According to media reports, the former Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz will work for the German-US-American technology investor Peter Thiel in the future. The 35-year-old has confirmed that he will work as a “global strategist” for Thiel Capital from the first quarter, reported the “Kronenzeitung” and the news portal Today, citing Kurz.

Born in Frankfurt, Thiel was one of the founders of the online payment service PayPal and the first external investor in Facebook (now Meta). He is politically conservative and one of the supporters of former US President Donald Trump. He should also multi-million dollar extreme right-wing candidates of Republicans support.

Speculations that Kurz could get on with the US data analysis company Palantir Technologies had rejected them. Palantir is also one of the founding companies of Thiel. At Thiel Capital there is an annual salary of around 500,000 euros for Kurz, reports the “Bild” newspaper.

Kurz entered politics at the age of 25, first as State Secretary and shortly afterwards as Foreign Minister and later as Chancellor. He had once started to study law, but dropped out. Kurz resigned as Federal Chancellor in October after allegations of corruption. He and some of his closest political comrades are said to have used taxpayers’ money to commission polls to pave his way to the Chancellery. Kurz denies the allegations.

As ex-Chancellor, he initially remained head of the conservative ÖVP and parliamentary group leader, but at the beginning of December he abruptly announced his resignation from all offices. Days before, he and his girlfriend had become parents. The birth of his son changed his perspective, he said, and precluded a return to politics.
