Jochen Bendel: He reveals his "PBB" favorite candidate

Jochen Bendel reveals details about his show "My dog, the kilos and me" and reveals his favorite resident as a "PBB" expert.

From August 16 (always on Sundays at 5:50 p.m.) Jochen Bendel (52) will moderate the new Sat.1 weight loss show "My dog, the kilos and me", in which overweight dogs have to lose weight together with their owners. In an interview with the news agency spot on news, Bendel reveals details about the new show and explains what to look out for when losing weight with your dog. In addition, as the presenter of "Celebrity Big Brother – The Late Night Show", the 52-year-old reveals which resident has already captured his heart.

What can viewers expect from the new format "My dog, the kilos and me"?

Jochen Bendel: There are magical moments when humans and dogs grow even closer together and become an even better team, so that no piece of paper fits in between. Before they both lived side by side, didn't pay special attention to themselves, had too little exercise and too many treats.

Lose weight with your dog – what do you have to consider?

Bendel: Of course the dog is a great motivator because it is a training partner who is always willing and willing to participate. Still, you shouldn't overdo it at the beginning. Moderation is very important: start slowly and then increase the intensity. And above all, make sure that you neither overwhelm your dog nor yourself. The most important thing is of course to have fun – and not to be too dogged. We succeeded quite well with our five human-dog teams in "My dog, the kilos and me".

How does obesity occur in dogs and what are the effects?

Bendel: Obesity in dogs is something very unusual in nature. It is a disease of civilization that we humans transmit to our dogs. Dogs are not only a mirror of our soul, but also of our behavior. They just go along with everything: If we don't move a lot, the dog also adapts accordingly. Of course, it's also great to have such an animal friend by your side who also likes to lie on the couch, but of course such a dog is seething. Dogs are only happy when they are appropriately employed and fully utilized.

What's the hardest part about dogs being asked to lose weight?

Bendel: As a dog owner you have to understand that it is very harmful for a dog to carry too much weight with you. Dogs can also develop diabetes, have severe hip and joint diseases, their breathing no longer works as well and they get depressed. The most difficult thing is that you have to admit it to yourself and not tolerate it out of selfishness. Dogs may seem happy and happy on the outside, but still feel frustrated on the soul. Then you have to take it slow. Not every dog is suitable for the same program. For one dog, exercise is the first order, for another, nutrition is much more important. Small dogs with short legs cannot be "hung" on a bicycle for an hour. And exercise-intensive dogs such as a husky can not only be controlled in terms of weight through diet.

How do you keep fit together with your dogs?

Bendel: My husband and I are very active in movement and, as a dog trainer, we are outdoors a lot. We live on the North Sea, i.e. we go to the mudflats, to the beach, to the woods with our dogs and customers to experience things together. Our two dogs are completely different from their movement profile. Gismo, my nine-year-old pug, no longer has to jump around on the agility course, jump over hurdles and run through tunnels. Labrador female Khaleesi, 4 years old, is incredibly active – goes jogging, loves swimming or stands on a stand-up paddling board. Our dogs always want to be with us – and when we move more, our dogs move more too.

You are hosting "Celebrity Big Brother – The Late Night Show" again. Do you already have a favorite candidate in the house?

Bendel: Of course, that is very difficult for me after just a few days. I'm still watching. I'm torn with some celebrities … But Ikke Hüftgold has already captured my heart! I like its entire potential: funny, entertaining, quick-witted, but also with depth. And the fact that he has now put down his fictional character "Ikke" for the first time and wants to be Matthias shows how strong a format like "Promi Big Brother" is and how much it gets down to business. You don't last long with a fictional character – just like Katy Bähm, who apparently also feels more comfortable when she can walk around without a wig. I am so fond of Kathy Kelly. It makes you feel like you have to get to know them.

The residents are in the house for three weeks instead of two. How does that change the show?

Bendel: Of course, it makes the show a huge event. You grow closer with the celebrities, you can get to know them even better as a viewer, because the celebrities also have the opportunity to show and reveal more of themselves in three weeks. At some point even the last one will break the self-imposed vow of silence and speak. There are many in Wonderland who are still holding things back. At some point you also want to tell. For some it was already the case after 30 minutes, everyone is different.

Many "PBB" fans lack the celebrity factor among the candidates. What do you think?

Bendel: Some of the celebrities we know from the screen and on television are so buttoned up that they don't participate in such formats, they are afraid of revealing something. If you shop for such celebrities, spend the three weeks sitting on the couch, filing your fingernails, saying nothing, collecting the money and going home. Then people say: it doesn't do any good. I don't even want to see the big names – they haven't said anything about themselves in recent years and will not do so in the next. I want to see people, where I can decide for myself, they have a celebrity factor for me – yes or no. We also make stars: Katja Krasavice would definitely not be a millionaire today and a mega social star if she hadn't been with "PBB". That's why this format is so appealing. We give everyone a chance and don't pigeonhole anyone. We must finally put the stereotyped thinking behind us and take a more relaxed approach to the matter: If you think you are a celebrity, then you are a celebrity. In the end I can still decide: whistle or celebrity who deserves the title.
