Annette Bening (65) as an ambitious long-distance swimmer and Jodie Foster (60) as her trainer – Netflix has it first official trailer for “Nyad” released. The film based on a true, spectacular story can be seen on the streaming service from November 3, 2023.

Diana Nyad (Bening) wants to know again. In 1978, the long-distance swimmer attempted to swim the Florida Strait between Cuba and Key West for the first time. The first person without a shark cage. “You tried it when you were 28 years old,” says her coach Bonnie Stoll (Foster). “And you didn’t make it when you were 28. Now you’re 60,” Bonnie continued.

But Diana doesn’t let her best friend deter her. With their help and route planner John Bartlett (“Notting Hill” star Rhys Ifans, 56), she is training for the record. She has to abort three attempts, but is successful on the fifth attempt.

“Nyad” is based on the story of the real Diana Nyad. The now 74-year-old ended her swimming career at the age of 30 to become a journalist. 30 years later, she dares to undertake the pioneering feat of swimming for 60 hours without protection from sharks.

“Nyad”: Annette Bening as an Oscar candidate

Annette Bening is considered one of the favorites for the upcoming Oscars for her leading role as Diana Nyad. The “American Beauty” actress has already been nominated four times and came away empty-handed four times. Jodie Foster also has a chance of being nominated as a supporting actress.

“Nyad” is directed by married couple Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin. The duo won the Oscar for best documentary for the mountaineering film “Free Solo”. “Nyad” is her first feature film.
