Update on the situation at midday
General Daniel Hagari, spokesperson for the Israeli army, reported on Sunday the deaths of several dozen Hamas members, including the deputy head of its “rocket firing network”the day after the announcement of the intensification of bombings in the Gaza Strip.
The Israeli army informed 212 families that one of theirs was detained by Hamasalso announced General Hagari, adding that the number of hostages remained provisional at this stage.
Eleven displaced people died Sunday morning in the bombing of a cafe in Khan Younesin the south of the Gaza Strip, where they had found refuge, announced the Palestinian news agency WAFA. Four other civilians were, according to her, killed in the same locality, and eleven in Rafah, still in the south of the enclave. LThe administration of the Gaza Strip, in the hands of Hamas, had previously reported 55 deaths following the night’s bombings.
The Israeli army reported new exchanges of fire on the Lebanese border on Sunday, where Hezbollah seeks, according to her, to widen the conflict with Hamas. Late morning, IDF said she had intervened against several “terrorist squads” and having intercepted a drone. It also reports anti-aircraft missile fire, which led to a response in Lebanese territory.
“So far, our response has been measured, tactical and limited to areas close to the border (…). Hezbollah is playing a very, very dangerous game. It makes the situation worse. We are witnessing an increase in attacks every day. Hezbollah is attacking and dragging Lebanon into a war from which it will gain no profit, but in which it risks losing a lot”warned Jonathan Conricus, spokesperson for the Israeli army.
Israeli bombings knock out Syria’s two main airports, Damascus and Aleppo, reports the official SANA news agency, citing a military source. The sites had already been bombed by the IDF on October 12.
The Israeli army “must target Hamas, not the Palestinians”said the French Minister of Foreign Affairs, in an interview with The gallery on the occasion of the peace summit which took place on Saturday in Cairo.
