Joe Biden is elected President of the United States

After a long wait and many twists and turns, this November 7, 2020, the American media announce Joe Biden as President of the United States.

The whole world must have been patient with its pain, but it is now well and truly settled. Following many twists and turns in the race for the American election, Joe Biden will become the 46th President of the United States in January. He will be accompanied by Kamala Harris as vice-president of this unprecedented mandate. He succeeds Donald Trump, who was elected president in 2016.

Joe Biden, the least worse solution?

In 2008, Joe Biden was chosen by Barack Obama to be his running mate and therefore won the vice-presidency of the United States. Both were then re-elected in 2012. If Joe Biden continues to defend Democratic beliefs, his political and social positions are not the most progressive. In 2019, then a candidate for President of the White House, he had come under fire from criticism for his positions on the right to abortion. Indeed, the one who is now US President defended the use of abortion strictly limited to cases of rape, incest and danger to the mother.

The divided democratic party

During the 2020 election campaign, Joe Biden’s presidential candidacy had divided even within the Democratic Party. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the representative of the 14th district of New York, had notably explained in a New York Times interview: "Even though he's the nominee, we also know that Joe Biden didn't win because of his ideological stance." She had also denounced Joe Biden's health plan: “The proposal to lower the Medicare age to 60 is almost insulting. Hillary Clinton was already proposing better in 2016 at 50. It’s a progressive concession that is 10 years behind.”

It remains to be seen whether Joe Biden's presidency will be truly modern and inclusive. These past biases suggest the opposite.

I have probably seen Friends, but also Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, at least 12,578 times. I am also very interested in female gaze in cinema and series. …
