Joe Biden
Zero followers on the President's Twitter account
With Joe Biden's inauguration in January, the Twitter account @POTUS starts from scratch again. It was different with Donald Trump in 2017.
According to "Bloomberg", Twitter has informed the team of the elected US President Joe Biden (78) that the followers of predecessor Donald Trump (74) will be deleted from the official presidential account. Biden will start from scratch in January after moving into the White House, if he does @ POTUS account takes over. This also applies to the White House account.
After his start as US President, Biden will not have the opportunity to quickly reach the millions of people who are currently following the accounts: @POTUS has more than 33 million followers, @WhiteHouse has 26 million. Twitter said that the Biden administration had to start from scratch, tweeted Rob Flaherty, Biden's digital director. The new president's team reportedly disagreed with the company's approach.
2017 was different
When Trump took office, according to the "Bloomberg" report, it was handled differently. On the day of his inauguration in 2017, the accounts each had more than 13 million followers after the tenure of Barack Obama (59). Obama's tweets were archived under @ POTUS44, followers of this account automatically became followers of Trump's new @ POTUS account, according to the report.
According to Bloomberg, Twitter has now announced that users who follow the current White House accounts will be notified that @ POTUS45 will then be archived and given the option to follow the Biden accounts. The Twitter account of the First Lady @FLOTUS (16.4 million followers), currently still managed by Melania Trump (50), will be reset to zero. Biden's personal account, @JoeBiden, currently has 21.7 million followers, @realDonaldTrump 88.5 million.
