From the point of view of the Union, the trip to Kyiv by CDU leader Merz has untied the knot between Germany and Ukraine. Union parliamentary group leader Wadephul denies Chancellor Scholz the leadership of the coalition. “Annalena Baerbock and Robert Habeck are leading the way.”
Union faction leader Johann Wadephul sees the announcement that Federal Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock will visit Ukraine before Chancellor Scholz as a “significant picture” for the federal government. “The Greens lead the government,” said the CDU politician on ntv’s “early start”. “Annalena Baerbock and Robert Habeck are leading the way.”
Baerbock’s announced visit to Kyiv is good for Germany. However, Scholz in particular does not do justice to his “leadership role”. “The SPD and especially the chancellor is not in a position to do what is actually his job: to exercise the authority to guide this federal government.”
Wadephul sees the trip to Kyiv by Union leader Friedrich Merz at the beginning of the week as very important. Merz “passed the ball” to the federal government with his visit. He also has “a major part in it” that relations between Ukraine and Germany have improved again.
