Actor John Bradley, 35, is embarking on a new series coup with “3 Body Problem”. After his role as Samwell Tarly on “Game of Thrones”, he now also plays a crucial figure in the new series by GoT creators David Benioff, 53, and Daniel Brett Weiss, 52. But he had to put up with a lot for that, as he now reports to “Watson”.

After working together for years, it’s hardly surprising that Bradley and showrunners Benioff and Weiss know each other well. One thing that everyone around Bradley learns about him sooner or later is his love for Manchester United football club. The makers have now used this fact against him and allowed themselves a few jokes when designing his series character Jack Rooney. The role of Jack Rooney was – contrary to the book – invented specifically for the Netflix production and so Benioff and Weiss had a free hand.

In short: Jack Rooney, whose name was deliberately based on Bradley’s hero and former Man Utd player Wayne Rooney, 38, is a fan of Manchester City, the arch-enemy of Manchester United, in the series. A hard blow for every football fan, including John Bradley. “The character being a Manchester City fan just comes from David and Dan’s sense of evil,” Bradley tells Watson. For him it is a sensitive topic.

See you again with other GoT acquaintances

“David and Dan wanted me on their show, but they said, ‘If you’re on, we’re going to somehow humiliate you in front of your friends,'” Bradley says. Apparently he didn’t take too much offense to the two’s rude jokes. In any case, he accepted the role offer.

And two other actors who are also involved in the production prove that they are generally not bad employers. There will be a reunion with two other “Game of Thrones” actors: Liam Cunningham, 62, and Jonathan Pryce, 76. The fact that these five are working together again on a large series project is likely to be evidence of a good working atmosphere – to which friendly asides are simply part of the equation.
