John Lennon: He signed this album for his killer

The record that John Lennon signed for his murderer Mark David Chapman five hours before his death is now for sale.

A very special piece of music history is up for sale at the "Goldin" auction: the "Double Fantasy" album, which John Lennon (1940-1980) signed for his murderer Mark David Chapman (65) five hours before his death. The starting bid is $ 400,000. The pop culture memorabilia is expected to change hands for more than a million dollars.

John Lennon was shot dead on December 8, 1980 in an assassination attempt by the mentally confused Mark David Chapman. Chapman is still in jail for what he did to this day. According to the auction house, Chapman left the album in one of the planters in front of the entrance to the Upper West Side building, where a passer-by found it and handed it over to the police. The finder is said to have kept it hidden under his bed for 18 years and sold it in 1998.

"This is probably the most important rock-n-roll relic that has ever been up for sale," the auction house describes the find. Both Lennon's signature and the year "1980" can be seen on the album in a thin blue pen. In addition, evidence marks by the police are noted on it.
