John Wick: if the film is called like that, it’s thanks to Keanu Reeves

According to the screenwriter of “John Wick”, if the famous action saga bears this name, it is simply because Keanu Reeves could not remember the original title of the film.

The John Wick action saga, which is among the most popular of its kind today, offered Keanu Reeves one of his best roles.

While once again lending his features to the ruthless hitman nicknamed Baba Yaga in John Wick: Chapter 4 (released last March) and a fifth opus has already been announced, the famous actor has been the face of the franchise created by David Leitch and Chad Stahelski for almost 10 years. But not only !

As the screenwriter of the saga Derek Kolstad recently revealed at the microphone of ComicBooks.com, it is also to Keanu Reeves that we owe the title of the saga. Indeed, originally, the latter was supposed to be called Scorn (in French, “contempt”), in reference to the resentment that the main character harbored towards the men who had killed his dog.

However, as Kolstad recounted, Keanu Reeves apparently had great difficulty remembering the title of the film, and kept referring to it by repeating the name of his character – John Wick – until the directors finally decide to imitate him, and to officially name their feature film after their hero.

“The only reason why [le film] is called John Wick, it’s because Keanu kept calling him John Wick”says the screenwriter.

“The marketing guys were like, ‘Man, that’s $4 or $5 million worth of free advertising so far, so it’s going to be John Wick instead of Scorn.'”

In the latest installment of the saga to date, released two months ago, John Wick continues his confrontation against the criminal organization known as the Big Table. His struggle leads him this time to the middle of the French capital, where he continues to face his many enemies.
