The John Wick saga has not said its last word and it could well be that fans will be treated to great projects in the years to come. What do we know about this?
John Wick now has several projects, including upcoming films and a video game. In addition, last year we were also treated to the Le Continental series. As success is always there, regardless of the program, a brand new series currently seems to be in preparation. It does not seem to be linked to the previous one. What do we know about this at the moment? Is this rather promising?
John Wick pulls out the guns again
As reported by the media Deadline, during a recent statement at the Morgan Stanley media conference, Lionsgate vice president Michael Burns announced the expansion of two of the company’s most important franchises: Twilight and John Wick. These two emblematic series will benefit from new variations in the form of television series.
Lionsgate therefore plans to transform the John Wick franchise, starring Keanu Reeves, into a television series. This announcement follows the prequel series The Continental, which included three episodes treated as films of an hour and a half each. Burns revealed that the deal for this series with Peacock and Amazon was short-lived. We do not yet know what character she could be based on.
On the other hand, the John Wick film saga, starring Reeves, grossed over $1 billion at the worldwide box office. Franchise director Chad Stahelski mentioned the possibility of Reeves returning for a fifth film and expressed his intention to continue the films for as long as possible. Plans are also in place to create an animated series in the John Wick universe, as well as another spinoff based on the story of the Bowery King. One of the spin-offs, Ballerina, starring Ana de Armas, already has a release date set for June 6, 2025.
These expansions demonstrate Lionsgate’s ambition to further develop its successful franchises and adapt them to different formats to reach an even wider audience. John Wick is therefore not ready to die and even without Keanu Reeves, everything still seems possible. It remains to be seen if the quality will still be there despite the years and that everything does not end up going a little too much in circles.
