Johnny Depp and Amber Heard: Will the verdict be made in September?

The mud battle in court between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard has ended. The ex-couple has to wait a while for the verdict.

The court in London has been buzzing since July 7th. Former actor couple Johnny Depp (57, "Pirates of the Caribbean") and Amber Heard (34, "Aquaman") have had a real mud fight – although they are not suing each other in the UK trial. Depp is suing the publisher of the tabloid "The Sun". Specifically, it is about an article from 2018. It claimed that the actor was a "wife's thug". Depp denies that. After 16 days of trial, it's now over. It means: waiting for the verdict – and that could take a few weeks.

Is Amber Heard a "compulsive liar"?

On the 16th and last day of the trial, a number of fans gathered in front of the High Court in London. Some had signs with them, like at a music concert. Depp appeared in a gray suit with a black shirt and tie, Heard in a black blouse dress with long sleeves. Both waved to the waiting fans.

In Depp's closing speech on Tuesday (July 28), his lawyer described ex-wife Heard as "a completely unreliable witness" and a "compulsive liar". The previous day, the opposite side claimed that "deep misogyny" was the root of the actor's anger. Although the British "The Sun" is sued, the process of a private mud fight between the ex-spouses degenerated. Neither Depp nor Heard held back on their allegations.

Judgment only in September?

The actors gave the most intimate and sometimes disturbing insights into their toxic relationship. Again and again accusations of violence came up on the table, from both sides. Depp's excessive alcohol and drug addiction was pervasive and he did not deny it. There was talk of a severed fingertip, feces in bed, smashed rooms, and throwing bottles. Depp was "a monster" with two faces, Heard a "gold digger". He accuses her of just wanting her to make her famous, she claims she fears for her life.

The judge now has to work through the sometimes bizarre allegations to make a decision. According to British media reports, this could take a few weeks. A judgment should probably not be expected until September.

Johnny Depp and Amber Heard met while filming "The Rum Diary" (2011). The couple married in 2015. After 15 months of marriage, the separation became known in May 2016. There followed a media mud fight with mutual, serious accusations. The divorce was finally over in early 2017. Will the war of roses end with the judgment in London? In the United States, Depp sued his ex-wife for defamation. One thing seems certain: with the process in Great Britain, both sides have probably not done themselves a favor.
