With or without Johnny Depp: “Pirates of the Caribbean 6” should come soon. Disney doesn’t want to say anything about the Depp cause yet.

Will Johnny Depp (59) return as Jack Sparrow to the “Pirates of the Caribbean” series? This question has been smoldering for years. In a new interview with the “New York Times“Sean Bailey (53) has now commented on this – or eloquently remained silent. In the Depp case, he “does not want to commit himself at this point in time,” said the head of Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production. So no clear denial.

But Sean Bailey promised that the “Pirates of the Caribbean” series should continue soon. The franchise is a high priority for Disney. “We think we have a really good, compelling story that honors the previous films but also has something new to say,” he said.

Disney has been wanting ‘new energy’ for ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ for years

Johnny Depp last played Captain Jack Sparrow in 2017’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. After this fifth part of the “Caribbean” saga, Disney wanted to pump “new energy” into the franchise. This gave Sean Bailey known in 2018. Depp was not part of the planning at the time. Instead, over the years there has been talk of a reboot with a younger cast and an offshoot with Margot Robbie (32).

There were also allegations from Johnny Depp’s ex-wife Amber Heard (37). The actor had become unbearable (not only) for Disney. Depp sued Heard for defamation.

Not for a million alpacas

After Amber Heard lost the case, it was said that Disney was backtracking and wanted Depp to be Captain Jack again. Rumors of an offer of $300 million made the rounds. Earlier during the trial, the actor announced that he “didn’t want to return to Disney for $300 million and a million alpacas.”

At the end of November 2022, alleged insider reports circulated that Depp would have filmed test shots for “Pirates of the Caribbean”. But like the 300 million offer, they turned out to be legends. Since then there has been no new information.
