Johnny Depp: He's asking for a respite for the next court battle

Due to postponed filming, Johnny Depp wants his trial of Amber Heard in the US to take place at a later date.

Johnny Depp (57, "Pirates of the Caribbean") takes his ex-wife Amber Heard (34, "Aquaman") to court in the USA. However, he is now asking for the trial to be postponed because filming is getting in his way. This is reported by the US industry journal "The Hollywood Reporter", which should have the relevant documents. The process should begin early next year.

The work on "Fantastic Beasts 3" had been postponed due to the corona pandemic. It was recently determined that these were planned for the beginning of October 2020 to mid-February 2021. Because Depp is punishable under his contract if he does not take part in the production, he asks the court to reschedule the trial from March to June 2021. According to the report, a date has been set for September 11, 2020, when it will be decided whether the process will actually be postponed.

That's what the process is about

In March 2019, Depp had sued his ex-wife for defamation because she had published an article in the Washington Post in December 2018, in which she had written about the fact that she had been a victim of domestic violence. The actor was not mentioned by name.

Most recently, a court case degenerated in London, which Depp leads against the British "Sun" – and not against his ex-wife, with whom he was married from 2015 to 2017. The tabloid had dubbed the actor a "wife's thug". Heard and Depp had accused each other of domestic violence in the process. The verdict is still pending, but is expected in September.

It was also recently announced that Depp's legal team may be preparing another trial. According to the "Mail on Sunday", the Heards camp feared that Depp would continue to take legal action against the actress. The 34-year-old team believe that her ex-husband wants to "ruin" Heard and that they are "very nervous". The former couple married in spring 2015. In May 2016, it was announced that Heard had filed for divorce. The two have no children together.
