Johnny Depp: Netflix does not finance his new film but will broadcast it!

After the media storm, the return to the cinema. For Maïwenn’s new film, La Favorite, Johnny Depp will play King Louis XV. While filming is scheduled for this summer, notably at the Palace of Versailles, many are circulating around the film regarding its financing. The Bloomberg media claims that the project would be carried by Netflix. It is not so.

variety, contacted by a source linked to the platform, explains that the feature film is in no way financed by the streaming giant. It will, however, benefit from a release in the catalog only 15 months after its theatrical release – instead of 36 months. This broadcast window follows the new media chronology implemented at the end of January 2022.

Johnny Depp’s last role dates back to 2020, in the biopic Minamata by Andrew Levitas. He played the war photographer William Eugene Smith. The Favorite marks his first collaboration with Maïwenn. The director and actor were recently spotted at the studios in Saint-Ouen, Paris, for make-up and costume trials.

No information specifies whether the American star will play in French. The feature film will follow the destiny of Jeanne du Barry – embodied by Maiwenn herself – who was the last mistress of King Louis XV. Louis Garrel, Pierre Richard, Noémie Lvovsky and India Hair are also announced in the casting.
