Johnny Depp reveals in court his 2015 wedding to Amber Heard involved ‘food, dancing and drugs’

Hollywood star Johnny Depp (58) is currently fighting again in court against his ex-wife, US actress Amber Heard (35). This time the trial will take place in the USA, in Fairfax, Virginia. On Wednesday, Depp on the witness stand revealed some juicy details from the nuptials, which the two celebrated in 2015 in a private and apparently wild ceremony at their home in Los Angeles, California.

Depp told the jury that the wedding included “food, dancing and drugs” – and that “everyone in her clique was on MDMA” – aka ecstasy. When asked who used drugs at the wedding, Depp specifically named “Amber,” “everyone in her clique, and “a few friends of mine.” They took “MDMA.”

When asked if and what drugs he took that day, he replied: “To be honest I don’t know how much MDMA they had, but for me – if I had taken MDMA – it would be a waste of the drug been.” When questioned further, he said he smoked his “drug of choice,” marijuana. He can’t remember alcohol.

Johnny Depp: “Pure hate for me”

After detailing their early romance during his first testimony Tuesday, Johnny Depp detailed the wedding details the next day, as well as the many later arguments that included “degrading verbal abuse” and “bullying” from her. “It felt like pure hatred for me,” Depp said. “If I didn’t end the argument, I could be sure it would escalate into violence, and it often did.”

When asked how he would describe the violence, Depp said Heard would “hit.” “It could start with a slap in the face. It could start with a nudge. It could start with throwing a TV remote at my head. It could start with throwing a glass of wine in my face,” he said. “She has a need for conflict. She has a need for violence. She explodes out of nowhere,” he added.

The actor went on to explain that he withdrew from the situations, sometimes locking himself in the bathroom and never hitting Heard. “In all of these situations, my number one goal was to retire,” Depp said.

Amber Heard is said to have stared into space during his testimony, “knowing that multiple cameras were trained on her face and many broadcasters shared their screens so viewers could keep track of any reactions to Depp’s words.” “Mail Online” describes the situation.

Divorce and other court dates

Johnny Depp and Amber Heard met as co-stars on the set of The Rum Diary and have been dating since 2012. At the beginning of February 2015 they celebrated their wedding, at the end of May 2016 they filed for divorce. This took place in early 2017.

After the lost defamation lawsuit against the newspaper “The Sun” in Great Britain in 2021, the US trial started just over a week ago. Depp is suing his ex-wife for $50 million for an article she published in the Washington Post that spoke of domestic violence. She, in turn, is filing a $100 million counterclaim, alleging that he slandered her by calling her a liar.

It is not clear how long the new process will take. US media assume that it could take up to six weeks before a verdict is reached. Almost 120 people are said to be on the list of possible witnesses alone.
