The jury which had begun its deliberation on Friday, May 27 is finally reached a verdict Wednesday, May 1. The latter was to be announced at 3 p.m. local time.
While the verdict was finally going to be pronounced after an unbearable wait for the fans of the actor of Pirates of the Caribbean, the judge finally sent the seven jurors under advisement. Indeed, the jurors made the blunder forgetting to fill in a verdict box regarding the amount of damages. An unlikely oversight that forced them to reunite again and further delayed the announcement of the final verdict.
Amber Heard ordered to pay $15 million in damages
A few minutes after the dismissal of the jurors, the Fairfax court was finally able to deliver the verdict. Amber Heard was convicted of defamation with malicious intent. The jurors have agreed on a $15 million in damages. A substantial sum for the 36-year-old woman who was devastated when the verdict was announced.
For his part, Johnny Depp was not present in court and followed the trial from London. The American actor was ordered to pay 2 million dollars for defamation after the statements of his lawyer in the DailyMail. The end of a long fight to win.
