Normally, family allowances are paid to the couple as soon as they raise at least one child. But in the event of separation, joint custody can be put in place, whether it is set by a judge or decided by mutual agreement. However, the parent who can receive family allowances depends on several criteria. And this point varies depending on the agreement of both parents or a court decision.
How to benefit from family allowances?
If both parents agree, they can choose to share the amount of family allowances. You must then make a request to the Caf by filling out a dedicated form. In this case, the amount paid to each parent is identical. Its overall amount takes into account the resources of both parents as well as the number of dependent children. However, both parents can also decide that only one of them receives all of the family allowances. Be careful, however, to distinguish between family allowances and alimony, because they are two different things.
A share of the allowances paid to each parent in the event of disagreement over joint custody
If the parents are separated and disagree, the Caf pays by default a share of the allowances to each parent. However, its amount is not the same for everyone. It takes into account the income received, if all the children are in alternating care with each parent… Finally, it should be noted that any other family benefit paid by the Caf will be received only by the mother of the children (unless otherwise ordered by the judge).
