“Joints for Jabs”: Marijuana as a reward
However, the premium did not come from the government. Activists launched the “Joint for Jabs” campaign, celebrating the unofficial marijuana holiday yesterday, Tuesday (April 20, 2021).
At Union Square in New York’s Manhattan borough, quite a few people stood in line – with enough distance – to get a free joint. All they had to do was show proof of vaccination. Nobody was neglected: Volunteers had rolled over 1,500 marijuana cigarettes in advance.
That’s behind the action
“It is the first time that we can sit here and legally distribute joints to the people,” said co-organizer Michael O’Malley of the AFP news agency. With the action they want to support the government’s efforts to get the corona vaccinations.
At the same time, they want weed to be legalized across the United States, O’Malley said. After all, New York is “only” the 15th state to have allowed marijuana for free use. “Joints for Jabs” also took place in the US capital Washington.
