The first trailer for “Joker: Folie à Deux” was viewed an incredible 167 million times within the first 24 hours of its release.

The trailer for the upcoming “Joker” sequel “Folie à Deux” has turned out to be a gigantic success for the film studio Warner Bros. According to the industry magazine “Variety”, the approximately two and a half minute preview video received 167 million views in the first 24 hours after publication. This means that “Joker 2” even beats Warner’s in-house record set by the first “Barbie” trailer.

Did Lady Gaga fuel the success of the “Joker 2” trailer?

The preview clip for the highly anticipated DC superhero film was published online in the early hours of April 10th, German time. The video with superstars Joaquin Phoenix (49) and Lady Gaga (38) immediately jumped to number one on YouTube and currently has over 20 million views (as of Friday afternoon). Singer Lady Gaga, who is followed by 150 million people on various social networks, may also have helped.

The performance of the “Barbie” trailer noted by Variety magazine is likely to please those responsible at the Warner Bros. studio. After all, the work with Margot Robbie (33) in the lead role grossed the impressive sum of over 1.44 billion US dollars at the box office last year and became the most financially successful film of the year.

“Joker” by director Todd Phillips (53) was the first film with an adult rating to generate over a billion US dollars at the global box office in 2019. However, “Joker: Folie à Deux” was still a few million views short of the most successful trailer launch ever within the first 24 hours. The upcoming Marvel work “Deadpool & Wolverine” set this record in February of this year – with 365 million views on its first day of release.

As things stand, “Joker: Folie à Deux” will be released in German cinemas on October 3rd this year.
