Jonathan Majors fired by Marvel: a replacement already found for Kang?

Has Marvel already found Jonathan Majors’ replacement to play Kang in the next MCU films?

Soon to appear in the adaptation of the musical The Color Purple, American actor Colman Domingo seen in Fear the Walking Dead, Euphoria, Bayard Rustin and Candyman could well join the MCU.

According to rumors relayed by Daniel Richtman (via The Hollywood Handle), Colman Domingo could replace Jonathan Majors in the role of Kang. Ousted after being found guilty of assault and harassment towards his former girlfriend, Jonathan Majors should therefore simply be replaced.

When the actor’s dismissal was announced, studio executives were still hesitating between replacing the actor or removing Kang – supposed to be the big bad guy of phases V and VI of the MCU – with another character (Doctor Doom).

Colman Domingo

The information remains to be taken conditionally since Marvel has not commented on the statements of the scooper but the fans already seem won over: “He should have played Kang from the beginning,”Colman Domingo would be fantastic as Kang!“, “Colman Domingo in the role of Kang the Conqueror, that would be too strong.”

Kang has unlimited variants in the multiverse. The public has already seen the same character played by different actors, notably in Spider-Man: No Way Home. The arrival of Colman Domingo as another variant of Kang would therefore not be a surprise to the general public and would not have any consequences for the rest of the MCU.

Finding the humanity in the bad guys

On display from January 24 The Color Purple in which he plays Albert Johnston alias “Mister”, Colman Domingo declared to the American site Wabe that he loved finding the humanity in the characters he played, especially the antagonists.

It’s very important for me to show the humanity of these characters even if they do horrible things.(…) Why do hurt people hurt others? It’s the only way I can find the heart and soul of someone who commits vile acts. I don’t see them as villains, but as people who commit villainous acts, and usually, these acts are committed because they have been harmed.”

The actor could therefore bring a human side to Kang if Marvel offered him to take over the role. While waiting to know if Colman Domingo will play the main antagonist of phases V and VI of the MCU, the next feature film from Marvel Studios is Deadpool 3, scheduled for release in theaters on July 24, 2024.
