Jony Ive and Sam Altman know where to look when it comes to finding a competent collaborator for their great project. Indeed, the lucky winner is Tang Tan, head of design at Apple. A real name in the industry.

Clearly, after the departure of Jony Ive, Apple will also have to let go of another of its talents: Tang Tan. The latter has just been recruited by Sam Altman, emblematic figure of OpenAI and by Ive in a strategic masterstroke. He will therefore participate in the revolutionary project of the two tech leaders consisting of the development of a device intended to streamline our interactions with artificial intelligence.

The decisive hiring of Tang Tan

The hiring of this veteran of the Cupertino firm marks a decisive step in the large-scale initiative undertaken by Ive and Altman. Tang Tan, although very discreet, played a decisive role within Apple, notably for his work on the design of the Apple Watch and the iPhone. His solid experience in engineering and industrial design will provide certain added value for this future AI device.

Tan will therefore leave the big Apple ship in order to swell the ranks of LoveFrom, the design company led by Ive in 2024. Such hiring clearly indicates that this project, for the moment quite nebulous, is driven by fairly high ambitions.

A large-scale project

For the moment, the details regarding the plan of this new trio can be counted on the fingers of one hand. However, it is possible to imagine that the arrival of Tan is synonymous with the search for a convergence between a very sophisticated design of this future device and AI technology which is also at the cutting edge.

It is not for nothing that this device is already baptized by its creators as “ the iPhone of artificial intelligence “. The idea is that it would completely revolutionize the way we interact with OpenAI’s different AI models. So what can we imagine? A mirror fully connected to ChatGPT, a holographic pocket assistant or a neural implant? In any case, there is room for speculation.

Tan’s arrival at LoveFrom is certainly good news for the progress of this famous project. However, the latter always remains surrounded by a mysterious aura. Let’s wait a few more months to see what it’s all about.
