Jörg Wontorra: The moderator takes a TV break

Will Jörg Wontorra end his TV career? The moderator stops at Sky and takes a TV break. He still leaves a comeback open.

German moderator Jörg Wontorra (71) takes a TV break. "After intensive discussions with my family, we came to the decision that I would take a little break again," said Wontorra to "Sport Bild". His engagement with the pay TV broadcaster Sky ended in late June. How long his timeout will take and whether he will return to the screens is not yet clear: "I will stop and will calmly see whether I want to do anything again or let my TV career run out."

This is "the main argument"

"For purely private reasons", he made this decision, said Wontorra. "I would like to spend more weekends a year with my partner Susanne. She had to do without me long enough. (…) The quality of life comes a little short with the football rhythm. That was the main argument," said the 71-year-old made his decision.

But the TV pension is not yet sealed: "Perhaps I will suddenly have a great idea in six months. (…) I am open to everything."

Jörg Wontorra started his career as a sports journalist at NDR. He also worked at Radio Bremen, the ARD sports show and Sat.1. He hosted the soccer talk show "Doppelpass" at Sport1 from 2004 to 2015. Since August 2017 there has been "Wontorra – the soccer talk" on Sky Sport News HD.
