Tuesday March 1, José Garcia was the guest of Philippe Vandel at the microphone of Europe 1. The opportunity for the actor to reveal a great role in a French series which he declined.
Back on the boards with the piece Biography: a game, where he gives the reply to Isabelle Carré, José Garcia is also illustrated in the Totems series, alongside Niels Schneider, broadcast on Prime video. As Philippe Vandel pointed out to him on RTL on Tuesday, the actor has been rare on the series during his career. “I wasn’t offered any and when I was offered any, they weren’t roles that interested me“, explains José Garcia before specifying that the length of the filming of series also had a dissuasive side.You have to be very careful with a serial character. He’s a character who can evolve either a little or not at all… You have to be able to take on (the seasons)“. Then to confide that he had precisely declined a main role in a successful series for fear of the investment requested. “For example, Olivier Nakache and Eric Toledano offered me In therapy (the role of the shrink, editor’s note), I told them: “Listen, you’re giving me a wonderful gift, but I can’t go the distance.‘. You have to have the ability to swallow a lot of text, to be able to stay in an armchair and have incredible listening (…) It was super interesting but frankly impossible for me. Already, sitting still is complicated (…) I would have gone crazy”said José Garcia, faced with a sawn-off Philippe Vandel to learn that the actor had refused such a big role.

The journalist and the actor then praised the talent of the one who finally played the shrink in the first season of In therapy, Frédéric Pierrot. “You know that there are plenty of people who write to him to do a psychoanalysis with him, so that he listens to them…”, said Philippe Vandel. To which José Garcia replied: “Ah yes, but he is wonderful, he’s a huge actor and a guy with extraordinary listening skills”.
