Josep Borrell (EU) visits Lebanon to discuss the situation on the Israeli border

BRUSSELS, January 5 (Reuters) – The high representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Affairs, Josep Borrell, is expected in Lebanon on Friday, and until Sunday, to discuss the situation on the Israeli-Lebanese border and the importance of avoiding regional escalation.

“(Josep) Borrell will again emphasize the need to advance diplomatic efforts with the region’s leaders,” the EU said in a statement on Friday.

Since the start of the war in Gaza, Lebanese Hezbollah has been involved in almost daily exchanges of shell fire with Israel. (Report by Charlotte Van Campenhout, French version by Kate Entringer, edited by Blandine Hénault)
