Soon the end of “Joséphine, guardian angel”? Following rumors about the end of the series, TF1 star Mimie Mathy wanted to reassure fans and set the record straight.
It’s the rumor that ignited the web this weekend: Joséphine, guardian angel is about to bow out after more than 25 years on the air. In any case, this is what Clément Garin, former columnist for Touche not at my post, said in a tweet posted this Saturday, July 22.
“End clap for #JoséphineAngeGardien. After twenty-seven years of broadcasting, the series carried by @MimieMathyOff will bow out in 2024, after 105 episodes. DEMD has just started writing the final episode,” he wrote.
Very quickly, the rumor spread on the web, to the point of reaching the ears of the main interested party and TF1, who denied this information.
Mimie Mathy denies the end of the series
Faced with the revelations of Clément Garin, TF1 reacted quickly by publishing a clear message. “Judgment Joséphine Ange Gardien by TF1 = Anything!“, thus wrote on Twitter Maylis Carçabal, communication director of the chain.
A few hours later, it was Mimie Mathy who took the floor to set the record straight. “To those who spread the #rumor of the end of #JoséphineAngeGardien in 2025: we’re shooting 2 this year and 3 next year. And we are on the 125th episode“, she explained before adding: “Joséphine still has great missions to accomplish!”
A clear message that leaves little doubt as to the future of Joséphine, guardian angel. However, for the past few years, the flagship series of TF1, launched in 1997, has experienced a drop in audience, which fuels this hypothesis of an imminent cessation of fiction carried by Mimie Mathy.
If, in the 2000s, an episode of Joséphine, guardian angel managed to bring together up to 10 million viewers, today the figures are much lower. The last season broadcast on TF1 thus only brought together 3.6 million followers on average.
Last December, the actress had also explained that she suffered a pay cut in 2013 in order to allow the cult series to continue to live, and above all to avoid putting an entire technical team out of work.
Will Mimie Mathy have to make new sacrifices in order to allow Joséphine, guardian angel to continue despite the drop in audience? One thing is certain, the future of the series seems to be assured for the moment.
