Lake Como: Attacks on Putin friend’s villas

Vladimir Solovyov is a longtime presenter on Russian state television, supports the invasion of Ukraine and is apparently quite wealthy. He owns three villas on Lake Como in Italy. Two are now attacked – one with ignited tires and one with blood red paint.

Two villas belonging to a TV presenter close to Russian President Vladimir Putin have become the target of attacks in Italy. According to authorities, an arson attack was carried out on the villa of Russian journalist Vladimir Solovyov on Lake Como in northern Italy. A second villa in the area had red paint poured into the pool.

Solovyov is one of the most well-known supporters of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Every evening he promotes the war on his show. He owns a total of three properties on Lake Como with a total value of eight million euros. As part of the sanctions against Russian Putin allies because of the Ukraine war, Solovyov lost access to her at the beginning of March.

The villa affected by the fire is currently being renovated. According to authorities, some tires were set on fire there, which were quickly extinguished. “It was a very small fire, with little material. There is practically no damage,” Como Fire Department chief Gennaro di Maio told media.

Mayor: No one knew about villa owners

According to the mayor of the municipality of Menaggio, Michele Spaggiari, it was obviously “an act of protest”. Solovyov bought the villa five years ago, “but up until a month ago none of my fellow citizens knew” who the owner was, Spaggiari told the AGI news agency. According to media reports, the police are investigating.

At a second Solovjov villa in Pianello del Lario, blood-red paint was sprayed on the facade and dumped into the pool, as a video from the Ansa news agency showed. The slogans “Murder” and “No War” were written on the facade.
